The Grand Canyon: The Most Spectacular Gorge in the World

Located in the American State of Arizona, in the Mid-western part of the country is the amazing natural phenomenon that is the Grand Canyon. The Canyon itself comprises 1,218,375 acres and lies on the Colorado Plateau. The Colorado River is thought to have been carving its way through the canyon for millions upon millions of years, the exact amount of which is subject to debate among geologists. But, regardless of how old it is, school trips to the Grand Canyon will fill students with awe as they look into one of the seven natural wonders of the world - which was granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1979 as 'the most spectacular gorge in the world.'
